Jay Cutler Gets Ripped On Twitter

Jay Cutler Called Out On Twitter: "CHICAGO -- Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher came to injured teammate Jay Cutler's defense after learning several current and former players had questioned how badly the quarterback was hurt.

Cutler injured his left knee in the first half of Sunday's NFC title game against Green Bay and left for good after the first series of the third quarter. He was replaced by Todd Collins, who was replaced by Caleb Hanie in the Bears' 21-14 loss.

'Jay was hurt. I don't question his toughness, he's tough as hell,' Urlacher said. 'He's one of the toughest players on our football team. He doesn't complain when he gets hit. He goes out there and plays every Sunday, he practices every single day, so no we don't question his toughness.'

There were more than a few comments on Twitter when it became clear Cutler would not be back.

'If I'm on chicago team jay cutler has to wait till me and the team shower get dressed and leave before he comes in the locker room!' Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman Darnell Dockett tweeted.

'Folks i never question a players injury but i do question a players heart,' wrote Deion Sanders, former cornerback and current NFL analyst.

Bears coach Lovie Smith grew testy after being asked about Cutler's injury.

'He hurt his knee and he was out, all right?' Smith said. 'There's nothing else for me to tell you on that. I don't know exactly when it happened, he couldn't go and that was that.'

Added Urlacher: 'Nothing like jealous people at home watching. Players around the league you said, right? Yeah, I love jealous people when they are watching our game on TV while their season is over.'

2011 Super Bowl Odds Packers Are Favorites

Packers-Steelers Line: 2011 Super Bowl Expected To Be Close: "The odds for the 2011 Super Bowl are already rolling in as sports books began posting soon after the Pittsburgh Steelers polished off the New York Jets to book a trip to Dallas. The Steelers will meet the Green Bay Packers, winners of the NFC Championship, in Super Bowl 45 on Feb. 6 in the NFL's penultimate event. As expected, the line is close, with the over/under set low, as well.

The Las Vegas Hilton was first to post, installing the Packers as a two-point favorite. ESPN's Chad Millman tweeted the line almost immediately after the AFC Championship. Shortly thereafter, the online books posted, favoring the Packers by 2.5.

The over/under for the game -- the other key piece of information in the betting world -- is set at 45.5. If the game plays out according to the odds, you should expect to see each team in the 20s and a game that goes down to the wire.
With two weeks to go until the Super Bowl, expect the lines to slide around as action comes in. We'll keep you posted as more lines become available, including the prop bets, everyone's favorite meaningless gambling exercises.

Pittsburgh Steelers Easily Beat New York Jets

Steelers Put Up Best Half Of 2010 Season In Victory Over Jets: "If you watched the first half of the game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets in the AFC Championship game on Sunday, then you might have been tempted to turn the game off. The Steelers lead the Jets 24-0 at halftime and appeared on their way to their eighth Super Bowl.
SB Nation's Behind The Steel Curtain said, after the first half, they were ready to book their ticket to Dallas. The Jets put up 19 second half points to make it interesting but that ticket to Dallas is still good for Steelers fans.

When the Steelers took a 24-3 lead into intermission, I felt confident booking my flight to Dallas and declaring it a game. That said, I thought all week that this game would be close and that the New York Jets would play a really good game. And they did. Even in the first 30 minutes, the Jets didn't necessarily play awful football. It's just that Pittsburgh pieced together it's absolute best half of the 2010 season. And wow, what a time to do it.

What a time is right. At one point late in the second half, the Jets had the ball, down five points, with a chance to win. But, like it's been all season, the Steelers defense stepped it up sending the Jets back to New York.
So the Steelers will be headed to Dallas to face the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Feb. 6. Check out Behind The Steel Curtain to see what Steelers fans are saying about the game. "

Barry Bonds Perjury Trial

Former Players To Testify At Bonds Trial: "SAN FRANCISCO — Some of Barry Bonds' former teammates, along with other retired Major League Baseball players and perhaps current player Jason Giambi, will have to testify at the slugger's upcoming perjury trial, a federal judge said Friday.

Lawyers for Bonds argued at a hearing before U.S. District Court Judge Susan Illston that the players should be excluded because of their ties to Bonds' former trainer Greg Anderson, who is refusing to testify against the slugger.
Illston previously barred much of the evidence relating to Anderson because of his willingness to go to prison on contempt charges rather than testify at the trial set to start March 21.

Without his testimony, it could be impossible to prove that urine samples that purportedly tested positive for steroids had been collected from Bonds by Anderson.

Dressed in a dark suit and slimmed down from his San Francisco Giants playing days, Bonds sat attentively at his lawyers' table in front of the judge during the hearing.

Illston also said she would consider on a case-by-case basis whether to exclude other evidence seized from Anderson's home and elsewhere that prosecutors want to show the jury.

That includes a trove of documents created by Anderson that prosecutors say connect Bonds to blood and urine tests conducted at the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative, which was at the center of a sports doping ring broken up by federal investigators.

The judge said prosecutors could call the athletes to testify about their relationships with Anderson, who supplied many of them with steroids and whom the government claims supplied Bonds with performance-enhancing drugs.

Bonds, 46, has pleaded not guilty to 10 counts of perjury and an obstruction charge after telling a grand jury in December 2003 that he never knowingly took steroids. Bonds testified that Anderson supplied him with all kinds of substances, but he assumed they were all legal supplements.

Some players were expected to testify that Anderson supplied them with drugs and informed clients the substances were illegal steroids. Prosecutors hope the testimony will persuade jurors that Bonds had to have known that Anderson was giving him illicit performance enhancers.

'Anderson provided them with detailed instructions and explained to them these were steroids,' federal prosecutor Matt Parrella told the judge.

One of Bonds' six attorneys, Dennis Riordan, sought to bar the athletes' testimony. He argued unsuccessfully that the government was attempting to win the case with 'guilt by association.'

On the prosecution witness list are Giambi and retired players Marvin Benard, Jeremy Giambi (Jason's brother), Armando Rios, Benito Santiago, Bobby Estallela, Randy Velarde and retired football player Larry Izzo.

The judge said she may stop the parade of players from taking the witness stand if their testimony begins to sound the same.

The players' dealings with Anderson date back a decade or more, which legal experts said could further hobble prosecutors already set back by the exclusion of the tests tied to Anderson.

'We all struggle with recalling what happened a week ago,' said Vermont Law School professor Michael McCann, a sports law expert. 'It happened so long ago, and these witnesses are probably going to have a difficult time recalling everything.'

The judge ordered Anderson to appear in court sometime before the trial starts to reiterate his refusal to testify. Anderson will be jailed for the length of the trial, which could last a month. Anderson already served a little more than a year on contempt charged after he refused to testify before the grand jury investigating Bonds for perjury.

Anderson pleaded guilty to steroids distribution and money laundering in 2005 and served three months in prison.

'He remains resolute in his position,' said Mark Geragos, Anderson's lawyer.

Both sides will return to court Feb. 11 to wrangle over whether a secretly recorded conversation between Anderson and Bonds' former business partner Steve Hoskins should be played for the jury.

Hoskins made the recording in front of the slugger's locker in San Francisco in March 2003.

In that conversation, Anderson discusses how he is helping Bonds avoid infections by injecting him in different parts of his buttocks rather than in one spot.

Bonds testified before the grand jury that no one but his doctor ever injected him."

NASCAR Updating Points System?

NASCAR Getting New Points System?: "DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — NASCAR President Mike Helton strongly indicated the points system used since 1975 will be scrapped for a simpler scoring method.

'The goal for some time has been to create a points system that is easy to understand, easy to explain, easy to be talked about, but also be credible at the end of the season,' Helton said Friday during a competition update at Daytona International Speedway.
The current system is a complicated formula that NASCAR says was drawn up on a napkin over drinks at a Daytona Beach bar in 1974. The Associated Press reported this week that NASCAR is informing teams it wants a system that would award points based on finishing position, from 43 points to the winner to one for last place.

'We're in the middle of the conversations, actually telling the competitors where our mind is,' Helton said. 'The main goal is to get one that's just easier to understand and simpler. And we're close. We're getting a lot of great input from the drivers about the tweaks that would go along with something like that.'

NASCAR chairman Brian France is expected to announce any changes, including potential tweaks to the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship format, next Wednesday night in Charlotte, N.C.

It appears that's the only unfinished business as NASCAR prepares for next month's season-opening Daytona 500. The brief offseason – last year's finale was Nov. 20 – ended this week when teams reported to the newly paved Daytona International Speedway for three days of testing.

But Helton defended NASCAR's credibility, which many fans are questioning because the changes are so close to the start of the season and how the championship will be won hasn't been formally announced. Because NASCAR officials want feedback from competitors, Helton said the rule changing process takes time.

In the end, though, the approach legitimizes the changes, Helton said.

'I think the credibility of our final decision is actually better because of the collaborative effort that we put into it today,' he said. 'Our appetite and our desire is to do it correctly and have one that makes sense and not one just for the sake of changing things.'

Even if fans, already weary of so many changes to NASCAR, have roughly three weeks to digest a massive points shake up?

"I think that our fans – as long as we maintain the core elements of the sport, tweaking the points, tweaking the Chase, tweaking different components in the sport – they're quick studies," Helton said.

With the scoring system undecided – bonus points for wins appears to be one of the oscillating issues – the competition group spent a good deal of time Friday discussing the new rule that will prevent drivers for racing for championships in more than one series.

The official license applications sent to drivers forced them to check the box next to the series in which they wished to race for the championship, a move NASCAR hopes will bolster the identity of its second-tier Nationwide Series.

The series is dominated by Cup stars, who have won the last five Nationwide titles. Only defending champion Brad Keselowski and 2007 champion Carl Edwards planned to race for the Nationwide title this year, but both drivers checked the Cup series as their championship choice.

Edwards said he'll still attempt to run the full 35-race Nationwide schedule, while Keselowski could drop a handful of races because of the new rule.

'The driving force behind this is to force more exposure and attention to drivers that are developing in that series,' Helton said.

In other items, NASCAR is unlikely to use fuel injection in any points races this year, and Darby said the yearlong search for a new Cup Series director is still ongoing. NASCAR said last January it wanted to move Darby into an oversight role at its research and development center.

'(We) repeatedly said that the timeline wasn't as important as finding the right person and making that transition smoothly,' Darby said. 'I'm still happy doing what I'm doing, and I'll be happy to do the next step.'"

Mike Ditka Thinks Chicago Bears Will Win!

Bears Over Packers In NFC Championship Game, Mike Ditka Says: "Mike Ditka, former Chicago Bears head coach, says the Green Bay Packers may be going down this weekend. Talking with the Chicago Tribune this week, Ditka said both the Bears and Packers, who will meet in the NFC Championship game on Sunday, are both great teams.
But if he had to pick, it's the Bears.

"Right now, I'm taking the Bears to win the game," he said of the NFC championship game to be played Sunday at Soldier Field. "I think the Bears are a lot better football team. I think they are doing things better in every area right now. The only thing they can't do is turn the football over. If they don't turn the football over, and protect the quarterback, they'll be fine."

I don't think I can agree that the Bears are "a lot better" right now. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are playing arguably their best football of the year and the Bears have been inconsistent at times throughout the year. Ditka mentions not turning the ball over which will be a difficult task against the Packers, who have one of the league's best defenses.
I don't think either one of these teams is "a lot better" than the other. I expect a close game. Check out Windy City Gridiron and Acme Packing Company for more on the game. "

AFC Championship Weather Forecast

Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets Will Play AFC Championship Game In Frigid Conditions: "The good news for fans heading to Sunday's AFC Championship between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets is that chance of snow is low. The bad news, though, is temperatures are expected to be cold enough to freeze any hot drink before it hits their lips. It wouldn't be playoff football in Pittsburgh without temperatures that dip below the 10-degree mark.
By the time the game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. EST, temperatures are expected to be somewhere around 10 degrees, perhaps falling as low as five degrees above zero. With a little bit of wind, it could actually feel like the temperatures are below zero.
While the chance of precipitation is low, Pittsburgh will see its share of snow ahead of the game. Snow showers and frigid temperatures are expected all day Friday and a winter weather advisory is in effect.
Add it all up and you have the perfect weather for a January football game.

Where is Venus Williams?

DONE: Venus Withdraws From Grand Slam: "MELBOURNE, Australia — Clutching her side and crying out in pain, Venus Williams lasted just seven points Friday at the Australian Open and withdrew from a Grand Slam singles match for the first time.

After losing the first game of her third-round match to Germany's Andrea Petkovic and trailing in the second, Williams stretched to her right to return a serve. She hit the ball and then reached toward the right side of her stomach. It was soon clear she had to stop.
'Obviously I just couldn't play,' the seven-time Grand Slam winner said. 'I couldn't move. It was too painful.'

Her withdrawal came on a day when 11th-seeded Justine Henin was beaten by No. 23 Svetlana Kuznetsova. No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki, her comic touch in excellent form after the match, and No. 14 Maria Sharapova also advanced. Winning on the men's side were No. 2 Roger Federer, No. 3 Novak Djokovic, No. 6 Tomas Berdych and No. 8 Andy Roddick.

Williams' right thigh was already heavily bandaged from an injury she sustained in the first set of her second-round match Wednesday – a three-set victory over Sandra Zahlavova.

Williams said the injury was in the muscle that flexes the hip and spinal column.

'The last 48 hours, I just did as much pain management as I could,' she said. 'A lot of times when you play, you get that adrenalin and that blocks pain. I just didn't get enough of that today. I was hoping for some magic that I could recover.'

The 30-year-old Williams waved to the Rod Laver Arena crowd and appeared on the verge of tears as she walked off the court. Her younger sister, defending champion Serena, is not playing at Melbourne Park because of a foot injury.

'It's super disappointing because this is just not how I envisioned my Australian Open being,' Venus Williams said. 'I'm just going to focus obviously on getting healthy and coming back, because I love tennis and I've got a lot of great tennis in me.'

Petkovic was surprised by the sudden end.

'I feel very weird about how the things went,' she said. 'It's a pity, and I feel very sorry. I just hope she gets better. She's such a great champion.'

Henin, the 2010 finalist, was beaten Kuznetsova, a two-time Grand Slam winner, 6-4, 7-6 (8) in the third round.

Wozniacki provided as much fanfare in her post-match news conference as she did during her 6-4, 6-3 win over Dominika Cibulkova. Pretending to be irritated at being considered 'boring' by some critics, she came prepared with a monologue to answer any question that might be asked about the match, and then some.

'I always gave the same answers,' Wozniacki said. 'I find it quite funny because I always get the same questions, so I'm just going to start with the answer.'

What transpired was one of the funniest schticks at the tiered news conference room under Rod Laver Arena. Once she got the usual match comments out of the way, Wozniacki had a chance to be asked about global warming, her prowess on the piano, the game of cricket and what she's looking for in a boyfriend.

'Hopefully this was a little bit different than usual, and now you can maybe give me some questions that are a little bit more interesting,' the 20-year-old Dane said.

Henin and Kuznetsova didn't have much fun following Wozniacki on the court. Kuznetsova twice had chances to serve out the match, but Henin broke her both times.

Henin was only weeks into a comeback from a career break from the tour when she lost the final last year to Serena Williams, the third time in four appearances she had reached the championship match at Melbourne. Her comeback season was derailed when she injured her right elbow at Wimbledon and didn't play again in 2010.

'There's no excuse, even if I know I'm not at 100 percent. She was better than me today,' Henin said in remarks translated from French. 'I made way too many errors.'

It was Henin's first loss in a major to Kuznetsova, the former French and U.S. Open champion, and her worst run at a Grand Slam event since Wimbledon in 2005.

Sharapova, who won the 2008 Australian women's title, struggled to a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Julia Goerges of Germany. French Open champion Francesca Schiavone of Italy also won, beating Monica Niculescu of Romania 6-0, 7-6 (2).

No. 9 Li Na of China, who reached the semifinals last year before losing in two tiebreaker sets to eventual champion Serena Williams, advanced 6-2, 6-1 over Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.

Schiavone and Kuznetsova, who will play each other in the fourth round, had what Kuznetsova called a misunderstanding after a Fed Cup match won by Italy over Russia.

'We didn't talk for some time, I didn't shake her hand,' Kuznetsova said. 'So after we spoke in the locker room ... we are completely over it. I said sorry or whatever.'

Federer was back to his vintage best, beating Xavier Malisse 6-3, 6-3, 6-1. While the defending champion also won in straight sets in his opening-round match against Lukas Lacko, he was extended to five tough sets against Gilles Simon in the second round, a nearly five-hour match that Federer said he was he relieved to survive.

On Friday at Rod Laver Arena, there was no such drama for the Swiss star, who is chasing his fifth Australian title. It took him 1 hour, 45 minutes to beat Malisse and earn an Open Era-record 57th match win at the Australian Open, breaking Stefan Edberg's mark.

'I'm OK today, and I'm happy I was able to come through it,' Federer said. 'Surely it's not the easiest thing to come back after a five-setter, but I managed.'

Federer will play Tommy Robredo, who beat Ukraine's Sergiy Stakhovsky 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.

Roddick overcame a slow start before powering to victory with 32 aces to beat Robin Haase 2-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2, 6-2. Roddick is seeking to win his second Grand Slam title nearly seven years after his first – the 2003 U.S. Open.

Haase appeared to stumble on a shot early in the first set and needed to have his ankle heavily taped. The trainer was back on the court at the end of the set for Haase, who broke Roddick's serve twice and made the shot of the tournament so far – chasing down a lob and flicking a backhand over the net while facing the back of the court.

'He was playing great early on,' Roddick conceded. 'The biggest thing was just to turn it around in the second set.'

Djokovic, the 2008 Australian Open champion, was leading Viktor Troicki 6-2 when his Serbian Davis Cup teammate retired because of a strained stomach muscle. Djokovic will next play No. 14 Nicolas Almagro, who beat No. 17 Ivan Ljubicic 6-4, 7-6 (8), 6-3.

'It's not really the way you want to win,' Djokovic said.

No. 9 Fernando Verdasco advanced with a 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 win over Kei Nishikori of Japan, setting up a match against Berdych in the fourth round. Berdych beat Richard Gasquet of France 6-2, 7-6 (3), 6-2.

Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland defeated No. 12 Gael Monfils 7-6 (4), 6-2, 6-3, breaking the Frenchman in the last game. Warwinka will play Roddick in the fourth round."

Vernon Wells Traded?

Vernon Wells Included In Mike Napoli Trade Between Angels And Blue Jays, Says Report: "News just broke earlier Friday afternoon of a Mike Napoli trade between the Angels and Blue Jays, but according to the latest tweet from Ken Rosenthal, this just got real. How real? Headed from the Blue Jays to the Angels is, reportedly, none other than Vernon Wells.

It's unknown whether there are other players involved, or if this is a straight-up one-for-one. What we do know is that Wells brings with him a mammoth contract that will pay him $23 million in 2011 and $21 million each season between 2012-2014. His contract gives him a full no-trade clause, but it seems that will be waived.
One assumes that the Blue Jays will pay a very significant portion of Wells' remaining contract.

The 32-year-old Wells has batted .275 over the past three seasons, with a .466 slugging percentage. He doesn't do a great job of reaching base, he's beyond his prime, and he's considered to be a below-average defensive outfielder. That said, he brings a lot of experience and a decent power bat that should, for the time being, fit into the middle of the Angels' lineup.

Assuming this trade becomes official shortly, Wells stands to re-shape the Angels' outfield. Bobby Abreu may shift to DH, or Peter Bourjos may return to the minors."

2011 Super Bowl is in Dallas Texas!

Dallas Preps For Influx Of Visitors For February Super Bowl: "DALLAS — The temperature might be 75 during the first Super Bowl week in Dallas-Fort Worth. It could be 25. Or both.

So while Super Bowl travelers are packing everything from T-shirts to wool overcoats for the area's fickle winter weather, they'll have plenty of indoor/outdoor options for their itineraries. The game takes place Feb. 6 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
High on the list for first-time visitors to the area is the site of John F. Kennedy's assassination in downtown Dallas. Strolling around the grass on both sides of Elm Street, where Kennedy was shot on Nov. 22, 1963, is free. There's a good chance a conspiracy theorist can point out the infamous 'grassy knoll,' the spot from which some witnesses say they saw gunfire.

An admission fee will get you in to the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, inside the building known as the Texas School Book Depository, where Lee Harvey Oswald set up his perch at a corner window.

International visitors love the Southfork Ranch and the white-column home that came to symbolize the runaway TV hit 'Dallas' in the 1980s. Sure enough, at least two Super Bowl parties are planned for the site in Parker, about 25 miles north of downtown.

Those who have only seen longhorn cattle on TV can watch the real thing stroll down the red bricks on Exchange Avenue at the Fort Worth Stockyards near downtown in the "city of cowboys and culture," as officials like to call it. Yes, the twice-daily "cattle drive" operates even when it's freezing. But if you'd rather stay warm, Billy Bob's is a couple of blocks over and calls itself the world's biggest honky tonk. For a buck during the day, check out the glittering disco saddle (not ball) over the dance floor and the cement squares that feature the hand prints of the late Johnny Cash and other music – mostly country – stars.

For visitors who neglect to pack a coat and need one, Phillip Jones, CEO of the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau, said, 'I'm sure they can find something at Neiman's or any of our shopping venues.'

Aah, shopping. Arguably the No. 1 indoor sport in Dallas. Jones refers to the upscale retail store Neiman Marcus, which originated downtown and is now one of the centerpieces of the swanky NorthPark Center. Among those spotted browsing there recently was AL MVP Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers.

Dallas ended up using the NBA's all-star weekend a year ago as a test run for the Super Bowl. Crowds jammed the Galleria mall in north Dallas the day before 108,713 people, the most ever to watch a basketball game, took in the all-star game at Cowboys Stadium.

The $1.3 billion home of the Dallas Cowboys with the retractable roof is in Arlington, but February is the offseason for tourism in the city halfway between Dallas and Fort Worth. One of the area's best-known attractions is Six Flags over Texas, but its 50th anniversary season doesn't start until a month after the Super Bowl.

Still, the stadium is an attraction in its own right. It has surprised officials with its ability to draw visitors for tours, on the order of 40,000 people in some months, said Jay Burress of the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau. The NFL is planning Super Bowl tours at $40 a pop. Space is limited, so reservations are recommended.

Burress said fans typically take stadium tours the day before Cowboys or college football games, and he expects Super Bowl visitors to do the same. The stadium 'promised to be for more than just football games, and it has definitely delivered with other events and tours that are year-round drivers,' Burress said.

Some of the other highlights in the Dallas-Fort Worth area:

_FAIR PARK: Out-of-town football fans probably recognize the name because of the annual Texas-Oklahoma football game at the Cotton Bowl. But Fair Parkers like to remind people that the area just east of downtown Dallas is a National Historic Landmark with the world's largest collection of 1930s Art Deco exposition buildings. Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed are planning a Super Bowl party at Fair Park. The Cotton Bowl will have entertainment for three consecutive nights, culminating on the eve of the Super Bowl. A Tom Landry exhibit that chronicles the career of the Cowboys' Super Bowl-winning coach has been on display at Fair Park since the fall.

_THE ARTS: Plenty of money has gone into expansion of the Dallas and Fort Worth arts districts in recent years. The Dallas Museum of Art and Nasher Sculpture Center are two highlights of the area on the north end of downtown. The latest addition is the Bill Winspear Opera House, fronted by 60-foot glass walls that offer views of the lobby. Fort Worth has everything from prominent art to the rodeo, which always opens in January and gets the rare boost of Super Bowl week falling on its final week. The city landed a coup when ESPN decided to put its show at Sundance Square downtown, not far from the Bass Performance Hall, which hosts the biennial Van Cliburn international piano competition.

_NFL EXPERIENCE: The annual Super Bowl showcase of interactive games for fans will be held Jan. 27-30 and Feb. 2-6 at the Dallas Convention Center. The cost is $25 for adults and $20 for children 12 and under. Kids 2 and under get in free.

_DEEP ELLUM: This eclectic collection of bars and restaurants just east of downtown Dallas is the heart of the city's music scene and figures to be a major gathering point throughout Super Bowl week.

_DID WE MENTION SHOPPING? Of course we did, but there's more. Grapevine Mills mall, just north of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, is a gigantic circle of shopping popular with tourists. It's not far from Main Street in Grapevine, a collection of shops and restaurants with an old-town feel."

Maria Sharapova has a stalker?

'Stalker' Freaks Out Maria Sharapova: "

After Maria Sharapova won her first round match at the 2011 Australian Open against Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn, a 'stalker' showed up at the postgame media conference and freaked her out.

James McOnie, a New Zealand journalist, appeared holding a sign reading 'I am not a stalker.' He now faces possible censure from Australian Open officials.

'You're the guy from New Zealand, huh? Oh, God, you're stalking me!' Sharapova responded after recognizing McOnie, according to Fox Sports.

The journalist replied, saying that 'it's not stalking if you love someone.'

McOnie reportedly started showing up at Sharapova's press conferences earlier this month and asked strange questions 'like did she need a personal shopper because he had impeccable taste.'

The New Michael Jordan is Marcus Jordan?

Marcus Jordan More Than A Namesake For Central Florida: "

ORLANDO, Fla. Marcus Jordan has always wanted to make a name for himself on the basketball court, and not be just known as the son of NBA great Michael Jordan.

He found the place to do it at Central Florida. Though not exactly known for its basketball tradition, the 6-foot-3, 205 pound guard knew UCF was the program for him.

'It was the first and last visit I made,' Jordan said. 'I just loved it. The facilities were new and it was definitely a place where I could go in and play right away. I think that was the biggest thing. Me and (UCF teammate) A.J. (Rompza) sat down and said we can start something new and create our own little legacy here.

'I just wanted to come in a make an impact right away and throughout my four years leave something that UCF had never seen before.'

Less than two years later, that conversation between the best friends and former Whitney Young high school teammates in Chicago is turning into prophecy.

Jordan not only led the Knights to a Division I-best 14-0 start, but the sophomore is the face of a program in fast transition under first-year coach Donnie Jones. Jordan is making basketball relevant at the school.

After finishing non-conference play unbeaten and achieving the program's first-ever Top 25 ranking with wins over Florida, Miami and South Florida, UCF dropped out of the poll this week following back-to-back losses. The Knights (14-2, 1-2 Conference USA) will look to recover Wednesday night when they host East Carolina (9-7, 1-1).

"They are definitely one of the big stories of the season – no question," CBS Sports college basketball analyst Seth Davis said. "Marcus may not be the freakish athlete that his dad was, and nobody is, but he's definitely a capable scorer that is making his own name."

That individuality extends to everything about Marcus. While he has never shied away from the spotlight that comes along with being Michael Jordan's son – Marcus is clearly his own person.

He wears No. 5, instead of his father's famous No. 23. His forearms and biceps are stenciled with several tattoos. He also sports facial hair and goggles on the court, which are both departures from his father's clean-shaven look in college.

Michael Jordan, owner of the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats, has been to several games in two years. He declined to be interviewed for this story, saying through the Bobcats that he didn't want to overshadow Marcus' success.

He doesn't really have to worry about that, not as long as Marcus is producing results.

The shooting guard is currently leading the Knights in scoring, averaging 16.5 points, and is second in assists (3.2), while posting five, 20-point games. His scoring average is double that of his freshman year and his field goal, 3-point and free throw percentages are all up as well.

Coming out of high school, Marcus Jordan was a solid, but middle-tier college prospect at best. He posted a handful of big games at Whitney Young, but averaged just over 10 points and four rebounds a game his senior season.

He had written offers to schools like Stanford, Iowa, Miami, Butler and Toledo. Older brother Jeff was at Illinois, so going to Iowa would have allowed Marcus to join him in the Big Ten. But then-UCF coach Kirk Speraw sold him on being a member of the first recruiting class to play in the university's new 10,000-seat arena.

Jordan earned C-USA freshman honors last season even though he was slowed some by a preseason knee injury. He was also the center of last year's shoe flap over him wearing his father's Jordan-brand shoes instead of the school's contracted adidas apparel (UCF's teams now wear Nike).

After a disappointing 15-17 season, Speraw was fired and Jones came in promising a new, faster style. To prepare, Jordan lost 15 pounds in the offseason (down from 220) and was in the gym alongside his teammates each morning taking 'hundreds of shots.'

His dad offered advice over the phone.

'He was just telling me to be in shape because he knew coach Jones was bringing that up-tempo style of play,' Marcus said. Michael 'knew how dedicated I was to really just getting my game to the next level. He was giving me tips and pointers whenever I had questions and stuff like that, but really he was just telling me to be focused and work hard every day, because eventually it will pay off.'

Jones, who has also had Jordan play more point guard this season, said giving him the ball late in games has been easy.

'We like him having the ball in his hands to make a score, get a foul or make a play,' Jones said. 'He's got the ability to do all three of those things and I think anytime you have that, it's a good quality.'

Rompza, also Jordan's roommate, said dealing with the extra attention is nothing new for Marcus.

'I think just always having it helps him the most,' Rompza said. 'I sent him a text a few days ago and told him 'You did this on your own. Just to keep it up.' It's just the way he goes about things. He's not cocky. He's not any of that. People say he's spoiled.

'But he's the most humble person I've ever met.'

Soon it will be a family affair on the court at UCF.

Jeff, who spent his first three seasons at Illinois, has transferred to UCF. He is sitting out this year after averaging 1.6 points with the Illini last season.

Marcus said having Jeff around has been a big help staying focused on just basketball this year.

'I kind of got to sit back and watch him go through everything and learned how to deal with it before I had to go through it,' Marcus said. 'Just him being here as a senior and (having) his basketball IQ, if I have questions I can go to Jeff.'

As for the newfound fame for UCF and himself, he plans on taking it as it comes. But in a wide-open C-USA, leading the Knights to their first NCAA tournament berth since 2005 is clearly a goal.

'It's definitely been different,' Jordan said. 'We've gone from hunting teams, like UF and Miami, to now we're the hunted. Everybody wants to boost their program by beating us. It's kind of a mentality change for our team.

'But as for me being the leader of the team, I'm just trying to go out and play my game.'

Sounds familiar.

Are The New England Patriots Cry Babies?

Darrelle Revis: 'Take The Loss Like A Man': "

After the New England Patriots were upset on their home field by the New York Jets on Sunday, Patriots receiver Deion Branch called the Jets 'classless.'

Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis was bothered by the comment and sent a message of his own to Branch and the Patriots.

'Just take the loss like a man,' Revis said. 'Just take it like a man, and move on. If they would have won, I'm sure they would have probably did ... the taunting, like they do,'

Revis also pointed out that when the Patriots beat the Jets 45-3 in December, New England players were 'doing the 'airplane' [a Jets celebration] and just teasing us.'

New York's Antonio Cromartie ripped Tom Brady for pointing to the Jets sideline after throwing a touchdown pass in that game.

Pittsburgh Steelers Win!

STEELERS ADVANCE: "

PITTSBURGH — A most fitting comeback for Ben Roethlisberger.

With the kind of playmaking that put two Super Bowl rings on his fingers, the Steelers quarterback connected on a 58-yard pass to rookie Antonio Brown with less than two minutes to go. The go-for-broke toss set up the winning touchdown in a rough-and-tumble 31-24 victory Saturday over the archrival Baltimore Ravens.

'Let's just chuck it deep,' Roethlisberger told offensive coordinator Bruce Arians just before he threw his biggest pass of the season. 'If they pick it, it will be a pick way down there, just as good as a punt. ... I just throw it as far as I can.' '

He did.

'It was kind of amazing,' Brown said. 'It kind of stuck to my shoulder.'

As a result, the Steelers (13-4) are a win away from their third Super Bowl in six seasons. The Steelers will play the winner of Sunday's game between the New York Jets and New England Patriots.

Rashard Mendenhall scored the winning TD from 2 yards with 1:33 left. That ended any ideas the Ravens had of finally winning a playoff game against their division rivals.

Roethlisberger took his shots early from the Ravens' defense, but threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns before his big pass on third-and-19.

'He may not be (Tom) Brady or all those other guys, but when I see him in the huddle I know we've got a chance to win,' said Hines Ward, who caught a TD pass. 'He's a proven winner. And history shows he's a proven winner against Baltimore.'

The third meeting this season between these AFC North rivals had the usual skirmishes, but also was filled with penalties and turnovers.

It's been a rugged season for the Steelers' quarterback. His life and reputation were in tatters 10 months ago following sexual assault allegations that weren't prosecuted. He was suspended for the first four games of the season, and helped his team finish with 12 victories and a first-round bye.

'It's Ben. You give this guy an opportunity to snap it; he's capable of producing plays,' Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said, 'It's not always how you draw it up, but he has a no-blink mentality. He is a competitor and a winner. And those guys follow him.'

While the Steelers trailed by two TDs at the half, it was the Ravens who fell apart in the in the second half as the team they love to beat most came back to knock them out of the postseason. The Steelers are 9-0 against division teams in the postseason.

The Steelers were trailing 21-7 after turnovers created two Ravens touchdowns. But they came back with the help of three Baltimore turnovers in the third quarter. It was so bad, the Ravens' minus-4 yards in offense wasn't the worst of it; they ended with 28 yards in the second half.

'We knew we had to play great. We knew if we didn't play great we were going to lose this game,' defensive end Brett Keisel said.

Baltimore was outgained 263-126 and Joe Flacco was 16 of 30 for 125 yards.

The Ravens' last chance to beat the Steelers – they haven't in three postseason tries – ended when T.J. Houshmandzadeh dropped Flacco's fourth-down pass at the Steelers' 38 with 1:03 remaining.

'We knew it would be a close game,' Houshmandzadeh said. 'I didn't think it needed to be, but it was.'

Failing to protect the ball cost the Ravens – even after they scored two touchdowns in less than 30 seconds in the first half. Defensive end Cory Redding returned a Roethlisberger fumble for a touchdown that both teams thought was an incompletion, but that wasn't nearly enough on a day when the Ravens' offense did so little.

'What better way to put the Ravens out of the tournament,' Ward said. 'They keep asking for us and we keep putting them out of the tournament. They're going to be ticked about this for a long time.'

With Baltimore up 21-7, Ryan Clark forced a rare fumble by Ray Rice on a screen pass, and LaMarr Woodley recovered at the 23. The play re-energized the crowd of 64,879 that had grown silent as Baltimore opened its two-TD lead.

'You know what, our offense went in there (at halftime) and said, `We played terrible. We gave them the ball in prime position too many times,' ' Roethlisberger said. 'We had to do something about it.'

Mendenhall ran for 14 yards before Roethlisberger's 9-yard scoring pass to Heath Miller, who missed two games after sustaining a concussion on a hit by Jameel McClain during the Steelers' 13-10 win in Baltimore last month.

Later in the quarter, Flacco overthrew tight end Todd Heap, and Clark returned the interception 17 yards to the 25. Three plays later, Roethlisberger found ol' reliable Ward, absent in the offense most of the day, for an 8-yard touchdown pass and it was tied at 21.

Along the sideline, the Ravens had the look of a team that couldn't believe it had squandered the lead – and couldn't figure out how to get it back. They never did.

'We felt good at the half,' Rice said. 'Our defense had them stopped and I thought we were going to come out and handle our business. But then the situation happened: fumble, turnover, another turnover.'

Roethlisberger went 19 of 32 in beating the Ravens for the seventh successive time in a rivalry in which both teams had won twice by 3-point margins during the last two seasons. The asterisk: Roethlisberger didn't play in either Steelers loss.

Baltimore turned it over for the third time in 9 minutes as center Matt Birk snapped the ball early to Flacco, who never got his hands on it, and Keisel recovered at the 23.

The drive stalled, but Shaun Suisham, who had missed earlier from the 43, converted a 35-yard field goal with 12:15 remaining to give Pittsburgh its first lead, 24-21, since its opening drive.

An apparent punt return touchdown by Lardarius Webb was negated by a holding penalty on Marcus Smith, but the Ravens – with only 36 yards of offense in the half to that point – tied it at 24 on Billy Cundiff's 24-yard field goal with 3:54 remaining. That was too much time for Roethlisberger, who excels in fourth-quarter comebacks.

Each team took advantage of a long pass interference penalty to score during a penalty-filled first quarter. Josh Wilson's 37-yard penalty for yanking on Mike Wallace led to Mendenhall's 1-yard touchdown run on the Steelers' first possession.

On a third-and-15 play, Steelers backup Anthony Madison's 33-yard pass interference penalty set up Rice's 14-yard TD run up the middle.

Then it really got interesting.

Terrell Suggs knocked the ball loose from the quarterback as he tried to get off a pass. Roethlisberger pump-faked, but before he could bring his right arm forward, the ball came out.

As Suggs celebrated the apparent incompletion, the ball lay on the turf for one, two, three full seconds. Haloti Ngata was closest to it but no one touched it until an alert Redding – realizing the whistle hadn't blown – picked it up and ran it into the end zone from the 13.

Mendenhall fumbled on the Steelers' subsequent possession, Ed Reed recovered and Flacco threw a 4-yard TD pass to Heap.

Notes: Mendenhall was the game's leading rusher with only 46 yards on 20 carries. ... Pittsburgh lost to New England 39-26 and to New York 21-16 during the season. ... There were 11 sacks in the game, six by Baltimore, including three by Suggs. Pittsburgh LB James Harrison also has three sacks.

AL MVP Josh Hamilton Has Pneumonia!

Reigning MVP Hospitalized: "

ARLINGTON, Texas — AL MVP Josh Hamilton has been hospitalized with pneumonia.

The Texas Rangers disclosed his condition Tuesday and said Hamilton was diagnosed with an early case Monday. The team expects the hospital to release him by Wednesday.

The Rangers said Hamilton should be able to resume conditioning and baseball activities in a few days.

Hamilton hit .359 with 32 home runs and 100 RBIs last year, continuing his resurgence following cocaine and alcohol addition.

Texas manager Ron Washington has said he wants Hamilton in left field next season to save wear and tear on the All-Star slugger.

Hamilton made 107 starts in center field in 2008, with the total dropping to 55 starts in 2009 and 29 last season. Hamilton missed most of the final month for the AL champions after breaking two ribs when he ran into an outfield wall. Hamilton was in center throughout the playoffs and World Series.

Ronaldinho Going Back To Brazil?

Ronaldinho Set To Return To Brazil, Leaves Milan For Flamengo: "

Good thing it wasn't all about the money, right? One week after telling Globo Esporte that, if he had his way, he would have already returned to Grêmio, Ronaldinho has signed with the club that claimed to have made the most lucrative offer. Granted, Flamengo wasn't the only club claiming to be offering the most real for the former World Player of the Year, but they were most believable. In that vein it's no surprise the Gaúcho is set to move from Milan to the Maracanã, which doesn't make today's news any less disappointing.

The idea of Ronaldinho's exit from Europe became romantic when he was again set to become Imortal, but moving to Flamengo is just another move. While it's great to see somebody as talented as Ronaldinho moving back to Brazil, selecting Flamengo makes him little different than any other player returning home. He is Ronaldinho, true, so this is more like Ronaldo or Roberto Carlos's return. Which is to say, we've seen this before and recently.

Ronaldinho returning home to Grêmio would have been different. Ronaldo didn't return to Cruziero, and Roberto Carlos didn't go back to Internazionale, let alone Uniaoõ São João. Ronaldinho not only could have gone back to Grêmio, but the move was plausible. Ronaldinho had already said that he was willing to reduce his wages. Grêmio is Copa Libertadores qualified. It's not just his first club. It's his home town club.

But instead of Porto Alegre, Ronaldinho is set to take his talents to Rio de Janiero, signing with Flamengo through 2014.. Perhaps Grêmio's the next stop - the last stop - but for those of us who already had Ronaldinho back in the Tricolor, the latest affirmation of money over romance stings, if only slightly.

World Juniors Russian Hockey Team Kicked Off Flight For 'Unruly Behavior'

Russian Hockey Team Kicked Off Flight For 'Unruly Behavior': "

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. -- Russia's gold-medal celebration went into overtime. And that prevented them from boarding their flight Thursday morning, a day after they won the World Junior Hockey Championships.

About 30 members of the Russian contingent were asked to get off a Delta Air Lines flight to Atlanta after boarding for takeoff early Thursday morning, an airport spokesman said.

'To ensure the safe operation of the flight, the crew of Flight 1266 denied boarding to 30 passengers who were traveling together and displaying unruly behavior,' Delta spokeswoman Susan Chana Elliott said. 'The passengers are being rebooked on a future flight.'

Russia overcame a three-goal deficit in the third period to stun Canada 5-3 in the gold-medal game last night. It was Russia's first gold medal since 2003. (Scroll down for video of the team passionately singing its national anthem.)

An hour and a half after the upset win, several Russian coaches and trainers came on the ice - one holding a bottle of Crown Royal Canadian whisky and others sipping from paper cups - to pose for pictures in front of the scoreboard that had been lowered to ice level after the game.

The players, all 20 years old or younger, had left the ice.

Buffalo Niagara International Airport spokesman C. Douglas Hartmayer said after leaving the flight, the group headed to the baggage terminal to collect their belongings, which were taken off the plane.

Tournament officials had no immediate comment.

The Russians enjoyed a wild on-ice celebration once the final horn sounded, players throwing their gloves and sticks in the air as they jumped off the bench to mob goalie Igor Bobkov.

The celebration eventually spilled over into the media interview area, where team captain Vladimir Tarasenko and teammate Yevgeni Kuznetsov hugged and chanted 'We're champions! We're champions.'

The Russians proved to be the comeback kids during the 11-day tournament. They reached the final by overcoming third-period deficits to win their previous two games.

They weren't counted among the favorites in a tournament that featured Canada and the defending champion United States. Russia was also coming off an embarrassing sixth-place finish last year.

WATCH the young Russians sing their national anthem following the game:

Are The New England Patriots The Best Team Ever?

Amy Turek: The Patriots Are Not the Most Exciting Team in the Playoffs: "

Yes, the New England Patriots have had another great season, but they are definitely not the most exciting team to watch in the playoffs. On paper, they're a dream come true. In fact, if Superbowl rings were awarded on stats alone, the Patriots would have this one. Brady is a veteran, and he's the top rated Quarterback in the league. Every week, New England fans expect to see amazing offensive yardage. Every week, New England fans expect the Patriots to win. More often than not, they deliver.

The Patriots are the safe, albeit boring, bet. They meet expectations. They represent stability, reliability, and consistency. These are excellent characteristics, but are they exciting?

No.

And much to New England's dismay, Superbowls aren't handed to the teams with the best record, either. That wouldn't be interesting, and it certainly wouldn't be exciting.

Excitement requires an inherent level of volatility and risk. The most exciting teams, the most dangerous teams, are the most volatile teams. Michael Vick is exciting. The Chicago Bears are exciting. The New York Jets are exciting. There's even something exciting about the Seahawks -- the veritable underdogs of the competition. What makes these teams is exciting is their unpredictability. It's almost impossible to set expectations for these players and teams because every week is different. Some weeks they display a level of play that is above and beyond anything else in league. Other weeks, they simply look dismal.

One never knows what to expect when watching a hot and cold team like the Chicago Bears or the New York Jets -- and naturally, the unpredictability leads to lowered expectations. That's where the excitement comes in.

Simply meeting expectations is mildly satisfying. Exceeding them is exhilarating. It's the reason why NFL fans cheer for the underdog and live for upsets. It's why thousands of fans pack stadiums for games when their team is expected to lose by a 20-point margin. There's something really exciting about an imperfect team pulling it together and having an amazing game. Perhaps it appeals to conflict inside us all -- the knowledge that we can have both good and bad days, that we can make mistakes and move forward, and that our future isn't determined by our past.

The New England Patriots are like the cool kid in high school, the one who has it all together. Everyone expects him to succeed, but nobody relates to him. He's talented, but frankly, not that interesting. He validates our self-defeating believes that only people who are perfect and follow all the rules will succeed in life. It's much more interesting to hear a rags-to-riches story, or to see the guy who gets cut from the high school team in his first year go on to play as a starter in college. These unconventional heroes silence the negative voices in our heads and show us that there is another way to succeed in the world, and it isn't always perfect.

If the Patriots win the Superbowl, millions of NFL fans, outside of New England, will probably shrug their shoulders and say, 'It figures.' But if another team wins, especially a volatile, unpredictable team, something more will be stirred in fans all across the country, something hopeful and exciting. When an imperfect team succeeds, it reminds us that there is a champion inside all of us, and we're all capable of achieving greatness. If that's not exciting, I don't know what is.

Ohio State vs. Arkansas Who Wins The Sugar Bowl?

Sugar Bowl: Ohio State vs. Arkansas: "

Bowl: Sugar
Teams: Ohio State (11-1) vs. Arkansas (10-2)
Toasting Town: New Orleans
Vintage: 1935
Alternate Name: Maintain the Status Quo Bowl
Baldwin Level: Billy

What to trust? You can look at the paper strength. Ohio State may have the best all-around defense in the country, combating a one-dimensional offense. You can look at the history. Ohio State is 0-9 against the SEC in bowl games, 0-3 under Tressel. The two losses in BCS bowls were by double digits.

Improper Benefits: Terrelle Pryor and four others were suspended five games next season for selling autographs and memorabilia. Pryor may face some further difficulty if the NCAA looks into his car rental habits, but with every step, he’s exposing how nebulous and ineffectual NCAA rules really are.  You were once the most sought after recruit in the country.  I’m sure the NFL scouts will find that really impressive.

Win One For The Big Ten? An Ohio State win might save some face for the conference, but not much. This really has been a disappointing year. The only good thing about last weekend was that it deflected attention from the “Legends and Leaders” debacle. For the school itself, however, it would get rid of some negative energy, and get people to stop spouting that SEC stat.

For Arkansas to Win: The Razorbacks must pressure and confuse Terrelle Pryor without losing contain on him. The “Truth” was far less effective passing against imposing defensive lines. Their offensive line needs to have a huge day, protecting Mallett and establishing the run against a physical offensive line.

For Ohio State to Win: They should play their normal Tressel-ball. Establish the running game with Herron against a weak Arkansas run defense, play solid defense, limit mistakes and make a play or two on special teams.

Prediction: I like Ohio State. I think the Buckeyes would lose to a loaded SEC team. I don’t think Arkansas is that team. They aren’t well placed to exploit the Buckeyes’ weakness against the run. Buckeyes win, assuming the five guys play.
